Tax Manager
Mazars in Malaysia

Where did your journey at Mazars begin?

While I was working at another firm, I was contacted by a friend about an opening in Mazars’ tax team. At the time, I was looking for better opportunities for career advancement and felt ready to take on bigger challenges and responsibilities. Therefore, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and applied for a position as a tax manager, and it was a success.

Did you expect to pursue a career in tax?

No, I never expected myself to pursue a career in tax. I like to travel and learn about different cultures, countries and the variety of local cuisines that they offer. Hence, my original ambition was to become a flight attendant. It was a twist of fate that led me to take on a different, yet exciting path. I pursed an internship in tax after my studies, which led me to develop a great interest in the field of tax and launch my career in this industry.

What do you love most about your job?

I really like the sense of togetherness and accomplishment that comes from completing challenging projects with my team members. The satisfaction of working from day to night with my team members to overcome these challenges motivates me to soar to greater heights.

What are the biggest challenges you face at work and how do you overcome them?

One of the biggest challenges that I have faced so far is people management. As a manager, I work to help support my team members to reach their maximum potential. I also aim to keep good spirits within the team, lifting the morale while at the same time improving our productivity. However, it is by no means not an easy task trying to balance such delicate interactions. Therefore, I put an emphasis on spending time to communicate with my team members and keep an open mind in accepting new ideas from them.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Always dream big and do not fear new challenges. It sharpens you and make you stronger. Nothing is impossible unless you stop trying.
